Geek Squad - Horrible Customer Service

I would strongly discourage anyone from using the Geek Squad for a TV/Home Theater Installation. Total nightmare. The salesperson at the store tells you they'll do everything, no problem, one low charge. Then they try to add on a bunch of extra charges for basic things like optimizing your picture on your new TV set. On top of it all, their phone service line is horrible, they put you on hold forever, they have idiots working the lines, and they are rude on the phone. It took them over 5 mins just to confirm my credit card payment after giving them the number. They tried to charge almost double their standard charge for simply taking the TV off a shelf, and double again for optimizing the picture -- all after the salesperson at the store told us they'd take care of everything and set it all up. You can't even confirm your service date from the Geek Squad counter in the store -- you have to call the 800 number.

BE WARNED THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY.

I ordered the "Total Home Service" from the Geek Squad after the salesman told me all the same stuff. They will completely go through everything and insure we are getting the best picture and sound possible.

WHAT A JOKE! They ripped me off for 180.00, they connected my Bose sound system and programed my direct tv remote to turn it on. I called to complain and they told me if I want the color and contrast adjusted for the room I would have to pay extra. That is not part of the home service.

THAT IS NOT WHAT THE SALESMAN AT BEST BUY SOLD ME!!!!!!!!

There is no such thing as CUSTOMER SERVICE at Best Buy, they tell you anything to make the sale then leave you hanging unless you give them more money. I will never spend another dime at Worst Buy.

They ripped me off too just this last month. Took 19.99 3 times for nothing and nobody will answer the phone. They're thieving *** Don't give the m your bank account information

Guest

Im a Dish Network Customer and im experiencing the same issues! They keep telling me about a subscription, and that they can't find my account information, but has taken money out of my account.

Guest

i work in the similar line, for them to do that they have to read you a disclosure and get your credit card information. sounds like you called a 3rd party retailer to set it up.

contact them and have them pull the call. if you didn't agree to the services then they are at fault and that internet specialest could be fired.

Guest

In October 2013 I called to set up direct tv. The technician came out and installed everything just fine.

Then he asked if I wanted "Internet service" through geek squad for 19.99 a month. I told him to have them contact me and I will discuss it with them. Well they never contacted me and I was charged anyway. On top of getting charged, it wasn't even Internet they were providing, it was " tech support".

Called to dispute and was transferred 5 times the first call and hung up on. Called back and they "reviewed" my account via what looked like an automated email stating I will not be reimbursed. Read the fine print. Protect yourself from these crooks.

Geeksquad is a joke. Will never use them or recommend them ever again

Just want your money

My computer had a virus, so I brought it in to be repaired. Before the could even tun my computer on, I had to buy a service contract for at least $199. I agreed and asked how long the repair would take, he said 7-10 days. I was ready to walk away to find another place because I told him I needed it sooner than that but he said that it really would take only 3-4 days because the day before they had taken care of their "back-log". He did tell me that it was Geek Squads policy that the contract stated 7-10 days but, no worries because it would really only take 3-4 days, so I bought that service contract. They also told me that I could check the staus of the repair online. 4 daysa later, I checked the status, it had been "checked in", but it said "your computer will be assigned to an agent soon". I called them to see what was going on. They told me that because it was an in store repair, I couldn't track it online. So I asked for the staus, and he said it was on track to be compled in the original 7 days. I was speaking to the same young man that stated it would be 3-4 days. I talked to his manager, the Geek Sqaud call center several times and I've gotten several conflicting statements on all of this. I called today to see when my computer would be ready and I was told it is on track for 10 days. In the past I've had other problems with bestbuy, and once I pick my computer up, I will never darken Bestbuy or Geek Sqaud's dorrs again.

I had the exact same problem. I was told my computer would be ready in 14 days.

I also purchased the $299 protection plan because it seemed to be the most economical at the time. After 14 days I called for status and was told that they could not tell me when it would be repaired; it was "on the bench". I spoke with a supervisor who reiterated what the previous person said. They really did not care what I was promised or my situation.

Terrible place to do business. I should have taken my laptop somewhere else.

Geek squad - refund issue

I had paid for online service with geek squad on 8/14/12 for my desk top work computer. They were unable to fix. They promised an immediate refund & did not provide. I was working with someone named Bridget Smith. She went in to try and fix the computer remotely while in safe mode. Despite the fact that i told her that the computer could not reboot and could only operate in safe mode, she kept insisting that the issue was that the computer was running slow and after a tune up it will work much faster. I had to leave for the day and a coworker had to finish the call. Needless to say, the tune up did not work and made absolutely no difference. They promised an immediate refund & said that all I had to do was call back with the transaction number. The first person I called seemed very confused about the whole concept of a refund and just hung up on me. The second person, (I think his name was Chris) was very nice, and sent me to a woman named Brianna. Brianna (also very nice) said that she would provide me with a refund and would get back to me that evening. She said that she had to open a case to investigate. I wasn't really sure why they had to open a case, but she said this was standard procedure. Two days had passed and I had not heard from anyone. I called today to see what the status was. I was passed around to several employees.....each claiming that another department would be able to help. Finally, I spoke with someone, explained the situation and told her that I needed to have my card credited. She said that the online remote access team was the only group that could give me a refund and they could not. I asked if I could speak with them and they said that they were unable to be reached by phone. So apparently, there was no way to contact them. I asked if I could speak with her manager. I spoke with a woman named Sara (very rude) who said that it would take almost TWO MONTHS to get a refund and it would most likely be store credit or a gift card. I have a receipt and the service that they promised was not provided. Why could they not just credit my card as originally promised?

Geeksquad Scam

Do NOT use Geeksquad. I spent 3 hours and $200 to have a remote GeekSquad tech try to remove a virus from my computer.

It did not fix my computer. I called back and was told my computer would have to come in and have everything removed off of it. A simple fix that took me about 5 minutes resolved the issue. When I called Geek Squad the refused to offer any type of refund or reimbursement.

So basically I paid them $200 to waste my time. Dont give them your money. Worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Of course they dont offer a refund. They know there technicians couldnt plug a computer into the wall with a map!

Am I the only one getting JUNK E-MAIL from Geek Squad every week?? There's usually an option at the bottom of junk emails to take yourself of their list, but there isn't one on these GS emails! :-[

I have some one local here who fixed my computer and guess what his card says at the bottom....."DON'T GO WITH GEEKS SQUAD-THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF".... Ya I said it!!!!!

With enuff complaints and lawsuits....u FREAKS will be OUT OF BUSINESS forever. To *** with geek squad!!!!!

Guest

Hopefully you used a credit card other than what Best Buy have. Call your credit card company and get your money back that way.

Guest

Hey there,

Former GS employee here. When I worked there we did our best to try and rid at least our store of this kind of junk. Unfortunately from my understanding now (I haven't worked at a Best Buy in almost 5 years) their "technicians" are nothing more than glorified salesmen which is rather disappointing. This kinda stuff started 5 years ago when I was making my exit as our higher-ups decided to just start hiring people who did not have any sort of credentials for PC work. The three of us that were actually PC techs were essentially forced out because we didn't "sell services"

Also unfortunately I do believe that BestBuy's return policy states that services, etc rendered cannot be refunded. I could be wrong about that and it could only apply to extended warranties for TVs, etc.

My recommendation is to take your PC to a local shop. There are plenty of small business PC shops that will happily take your business, charge you less and be more communicative.

BEST BUY GEEK SQUADE FRIED MY LAPTOP

On March 11, 2012, i took my laptop to the geek squad to remove a virus. The nice young man powered it up, saw the pop ups and agreed that it was a virus. Said it was an easy fix and it would be fixed in 3 to 4 days tops. charged me $200 + tax which included new anti virus and 1 yr of squad service. Said that I would receive a call when ready to pick up. 3 days later i called and was told it would be ready the next day. The next day i called and was put on terminal hold. Hung up after 35 minutes. The next day I called and was put on terminal hold for 23 minutes. I hung up then called again and was put on terminal hold for 45 minutes! The next day i was going out of town. I had told him when i left the computer that i was leaving town and needed the computer. While on the airplane and my phone was off they called and left a message that they needed an additional $99 + tax to do a data backup. I had already declined the backup. Later i tried to call and was put on terminal hold for 18 minutes before i hung up. The NEXT day they called and left a message that they BELIEVED the motherboard was bad and they needed an additional $200 + tax to send it SOMEWHERE to be repaired. I got back in town the next day (now 7 full days) so i went to the store in person. Stood in line about 20 minutes and finally asked the young man about my computer. He told me that they could not download the antivirus therefore they thought it was the motherboard (??) and it needed to be replaced. I asked about the warranty (turns out it was 1 yr 1 mo old) AND THAT'S WHEN HE STARTED GETTING NASTY. Since i had no intention of being treated this way I declined and told him i would just pick up my computer and told him i expected a refund. He was just floored by this! Very calmly i explained that i bought software that was not installed and i bought service that i could not use and i expected a refund. Wow! He started, then cut his eyes to the people standing in line behind me, and went to the back to speak to his supervisor. After several minutes he came back and said that he was authorized to make a PARTIAL refund of $130 + tax. Okay, i'll take that (thinking they had at least done SOMETHING GOOD!) He then told me he couldn't do a refund because he didn't know how and that i would have to go stand in another line. 20 minutes later i told the nice young man who waited on me in the OTHER LINE that the man standing next to him had authorized a refund. He looked at me, he looked at Mr. Rude, looked shocked and proceeded to refund the amount and then said, "okay, you're good to go." I told him i would be when i got my computer. He looked shocked again and turned to Mr. Rude next to him and asked him why he hadn't given me my computer. Mr. Rude said that he had just brought it in from the back and it was on the back counter. Then the man who had refunded the money and Mr. Rude went into a whispered conversation in front of my computer. They caught another person coming from the back and drug him into the conversation. Much pointing and whispering and after about 5 minutes i was given my computer. I went to the car and i turned the computer over and noticed tool marks on the screws on the bottom. Why would you need to take the back off to remove a virus? I had authorized no repairs other than the removal of the virus and installation of software. Took the computer home and plugged it up, turned it on and.....nothing! Coupld of days later took it somewhere else where the technician checked it and finally pronounced that all circuits were FRIED! i asked was it possibly that a virus did that and was told it was not possible. I called Best Buy and spoke with a young woman who then transferred me to CUSTOMER RELATIONS. What a JOKE! Finally he told me that i needed to take the laptop back to where they fried it and they would evaluate it and determine whether they had done something wrong! Can you imagine? Would you? NEVER, NEVER, NEVER WALK IN THE DOORS OF BEST BUY MUCH LESS TAKE ANYTHING THERE FOR REPAIRS! This was the Best Buy on Charlotte in the Nashville West Shopping Center in Nashville Tennessee. Thank you.

Any technician or repair center that does not do a hard drive image backup before attempting to remove a virus should be sued for professional malpractice.

There are many software programs to do this kind of backup. I recommend the Acronis programs for this. If something goes wrong during the virus removal, the hard drive can be restored to how it was before the attempted removal.

Guest

So Mark...

You are saying if you take a car into a garage for an oil change, and the tech decides he wants to check the cam shaft because he cannot get the oil into the car. He then hands you back the car with a thrown rod and says you owe me $1000. To you this is acceptable??!!??!!

Guest

It sounds like your harddrive failed to me and that they opened your computer to check the hard drive with the main computer to see if your information was still recoverable from the hard drive. Best buy did nothing wrong here, The $200 tech support doesn't cover your parts breaking miss and the reason you only got a partial refund was because they worked on the computer. If you cleaned my entire house but I asked you to stop before you cleaned the last room it doesn't mean I get to avoid paying you.

Uhhhhh and just how did you come to the conclusion that he actually had a hard drive problem? There was nothing mentioned to indicate this.

He wanted a virus removed. He contracted to do just that. They failed! So why does he owe them anything?

He did NOT ask for a diagnostic. On top of that, they damaged his machine! And you are OK with this?

Please take all of your repairs to them. You deserve the very best....and when they are done with you, I will be quite happy to take your money to do the job right.

Geek Squad is TERRIBLE!

Geek Squad is TERRIBLE!
I recently bought a brand new laptop from Best Buy. About a week after I took it home, the screen started having issues, it would go completely static for no reason. I took it back and got a new machine. Then, THAT brand new machine started shutting down up to 10 times a day, even after I took great care of it. I took it back, they said since I can no longer replace it for a new machine they would fix it for free, as I was still on the warranty. Weeks went by and I called about the status. Turns out they couldn't fix it and sent it to ANOTHER Geek Squad. Another week passes and they call me...telling me that there's a SOUND problem that costs 200$ to fix!! "Oh, but we replaced your keyboard!" Woo-hoo, you replaced my keyboard on a NEW machine! I took the computer back, which had no sound, and got the sound back with my uncle's help, who works with computers. The keyboard is new but is sticking up on the side with the paint around the edges chipped from where they dug into it. NEVER let Geek Squad touch your computer, ever! Not only will they damage your machine, they will charge YOU, even if its a brand new machine. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I work for a geek squad in IA and I can assure you we are not all this way. All the ones here, including myself, all have some sort of degree, weather its MIS, Computer Science, or whatever but we all do.

I am not saying that all of the Geek Squad's are like us but I can promise we're not all like that one. Our turn time at our store to fix a HDD with discs provided(if they are not we will ask for them right away) is at most 2 days. If that, I fixed one today in 6 hours including the OS installation and updates with Antivirus installation. I don't want you to think that all geek squads are like this one, because they are not.

I've seen a lot of bad experiences with some geek squads and to me, it seems like yes some are the agent's not paying attention or being rude. However, when we get a client that is yelling at us for something THEY broke (like a screen) and its not covered under the Manufacturer warranty (not even our problem) that is no reason to be mad at us for something that we have absolutely no control over. We can only do what Dell, HP, Asus, Sony, etc.

tells us to do. Sometimes when you get mad, take a second to really realize what you're getting mad at and think...is it our fault or are you being an *** for no reason?

Just a word of caution..........Hp laptops have a very bad history of overheating. It is a design flaw.

The video chip would overheat and cause a loss of video and other issues. I don't know if the newer models have fixed this issue or not.

I would advise you to buy a platform cooler to go under the laptop to help keep it cool. It's a $10 investment and could save you a lot of grief in the future.

Guest

So sense you say that not everyone is like that. What do you suggest that i should do.

In my case I baugjt a tablet and i broke the screen. It was sent out for repair and i got it back not assembled corectlly. After i called the 1800 number the sent it back out and and now it came in worse conditions.

They say they cant do anything about it because it is not affecting the functionality of the tablet. I understand that but the service done to it was poor and the damages they did are unacepptable.

GEEK SQUAD SUCKS

Hi I am a very pissed off consumer. I took my 17 " MACBOOK PRO in for a basic repair ( Cursor Issue ) to the GEEK SQUAD for a check up to see if there was something they could do to fix or adjust the problem.

I never in a million years would have thought that the Geek Squad would have junked out my machine for a cursor issue, therefore I saw no reason to back up my music and all of my other files. This is why I was shocked to find out that they had scrapped my computer with all of my files along with it. I had well over 10,000 Dollars worth of music and other files that are no longer available. I cannot recover the loss and all that the geek squad had to say was that they were going to replace my machine at no cost.

Although they did that they had the nerve to offer me a $ 50.00 gift card for my trouble.

I will never recommend that anyone take their computer to the geek squad for repair. I hate the way they handled the situation.

LOL, why on earth wouldn't you back anything up before sending it off?! There is never any guarantee ever that something might not happen when you are shipping things... silly to be upset at anybody but yourself

Guest

Always back up your files before taking it in. Also if you have a MacBook Pro (Apple product). Should have gone to Apple Store for them to look at it.

Guest

So youre saying you had about 80 gigabytes of music files that you do not have on CDs nor a service like iTunes - meaning you pirated a lot of it, is that right?

Also, as another commenter pointed out - having 10 thousands dollars worth of files on your computer and having no backup is a sign of... I just don't know, lol.

Guest

when you sent your computer off for repair, they had you sign a form letting you know that they were not responsible for your data.

Guest

I think some of the "Anonymous" posters are disgruntled Geeks who've been found out.

Just sayin' ;)

Guest

Why would anyone in their sane mind keep $10 grand worth of files on their computer and not spend $10 on software to back it up? Something sounds fishy here, and if it doesn't make sense, it probably isn't true.

Guest

So, you're mad that you didn't use Mac's ONE-CLICK backup solution to save that much music? As Ben said, they would have offered to save your data as well. Facts, get them.

Guest

They would have offered you a data backup no less than three times retard

Geek Squad Not IT Professionals

A friend took his grand-daugther's new laptop to them to remove a virus. They got rid of the virus. By wiping out the whole hard drive. Data, partitions & All. When he came back to pick it up, they told him they need his OS discs. (If geek squad are professionals, they would know that the new laptops that are out now, have a partition on the hard drive that allows you to do a system restore back to factory settings.) Well, my friend was confused and was pissed. He just brought it to them to take a virus off, not to take ALL DATA on the Hard Drive off. I took a look at his laptop. Yep! It was wiped clean. Partitions and All.

NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Shortly after buying my Lenovo laptop at Best Buy, the display went out. I dropped it off w/ the Geek Squad at the Mission Viejo, CA store at the end of January and left the country. When I called upon my return to the U.S. at the end of February (a month later!!), I found out it had never been sent out for service due to an internal clerical issue, which no one ever bothered to resolve in my absence -- or even advise me of via email. The customer service rep assured me it was being sent out and "EXPEDITED" at no additional cost. Over a week later, I saw online that the status of the machine was awaiting shipment (presumably, after having been repaired). Since I was told that it was being "expedited" it made no sense that it would be sitting there waiting for shipment for two days, so I called the customer service line. Bottom line?? I'M STILL WAITING!! This is ridiculous. Do NOT use Geek Squad.

I don't really have any proof that you actually do represent Geek Squad, so I am disinclined to sahre the SO with you. However, I will tell you that though I got my machine back on the 9th, I just found the power cord today (after waiting so long to get my laptop back, I didn't remember where I'd put it!).

When I plugged it in, an icon appeared saying there is no battery installed. THEY FAILED TO RETURN MY BATTERY!!

I agree that you can get a much better education at a small shop......especially if you are involved with the repair from check-in to check-out. You will learn how to communicate with people, learn to listen, learn to know the right questions to ask.......

question that make the difference between a so-so job and one that brings in referrals. DO your work in a way that at the end of the day, you are proud of yourself. Keep your quality and ethics high.

Word will get around pretty fast that YOU are the one people should go see if they have a problem. Best of luck!

Go work at a Mom and pop store, honey. There's honest people there. You'd fit right in. This world has enough rude people and crooks. Good luck with your job hunting. X

Guest

They are there to make money the most efficient, hap-hazard way and then write it off as the best way they could've handled it when their were other options on the table. They take advantage of computer illiterates in a big way to make the most money.

Their management tells them to reformat if there's a virus cause it's quicker, then up-sell the customer a product like a new OS upgrade or a insurance policy so if something breaks again you're insured. You'll have better luck working at a mom/pop computer shop and do the right thing to avoid frustrated customers.

Guest

They send everything to their repair center

Guest

If so, you will most likely be made a manager @ Geek Squad.

True, Thanks for the input !

geek squad probably has criteria besides knowledge on computers, like a pleasant personality also. You may not fit.

GEEK SQUAD IS HORRIBLE!!

I purchased a very expensive Pioneer amp from Best Buy and after hooking everything up I was experiencing distortion from the speakers. I requested a consultation from "Geek Squad". A service tech was sent to my home to evaluate the problem. Long story short; the tech was not able to solve the problem and before he departed he arbitrarily set the audio system in a mode which deactivated the sound system. I spent a couple hours attempting to activate the sound from different sources(TV, DVD, & Tuner). Having no success, I stopped into Best Buy and explained the problem. Their answer was that if I wanted a tech to come back out to diagnose the problem they would charge me another consultation fee. When I called the toll free number for Geek Squad I was prompted to leave a message. I called back 6 times and never allowed to speak to real live person. I left 6 messages. After waiting for Five days, I still have not had a Geek Squad member contact me to evaluate the problem. This is by far the WORST service of any business I've encountered.

geek squad 2 weeks fix fan

didnt fix problem

Geek Squad Doesn't Know Squat

Spent $300 for them to remove System Virus, which they did by (what we figured) only putting Webroot on my computer. However I was still having problems and took my computer back with the complaint that it was still blue screening and crashing. They said that they scanned it all day and nothing out of order was found on my computer. My husband had to Google the system blue screen that my computer popped up every ten minutes and had to follow online instructions to fix the problem that Geek Squad couldn't do, he also found the Malware virus that Geek Squad didn't find and hand to remove it himself. I'm royally pissed that they took my money, had my computer finished in an hour of drop off when I was first told that it would be ready the next day, and they they didn't do a disk recovery when we asked.

Instead of being nasty and finding fault, you could have just as easily explained things. A virus program does not take care of malware but many people don't understand.

A good way to approach what "appears" to be a virus is to run both your virus program and Malwarebytes (free). You can download a good, free, one time use scan utility from Kaspersky. Another tool is called Combofix and is also free. Those 3 will remove almost any kind of mischief maker.

You don't need to know what it's called. You just need to know what tools to use against it.

Well *** Searching for a virus, of course there was nothing You finding malware was different then a virus scan ....that's like telling the doctor to test for HIV and then you getting mad because he never told you that you're prego
